The Last Days of October

 

In the last days of October we ventured out to the local pumpkin patch. We wandered through the corn maze then collected some pumpkins for Halloween. It was the perfect fall day, and since we went in the late afternoon, the sun was starting to dip down in the sky. This produced a lovely back light, but also some harsh shadows. Overall, it was the perfect seasonal outing.

Black and White Summer Hike

In the middle of the summer when visiting our family's cottage, the "kids" of the family decided to head out and go on a hike. It was supposed to be a light hike, but it ended up being an intensive, wading through knee-deep water and making a detour to find a geocache, kind of hike. Luckily, the camera and I survived. These photos are the result of that summer afternoon.

Summer Days: Cottage Life

This is a short video I made documenting our typical Canadian long weekend adventures at the cottage. It's a departure from the usual photography on this blog, but it definitely carries some of the same technical work, since it was shot on my DSLR. This is one of my first attempts at this type of video, and I'm hoping to try many more!

Over the summer, I tried out some longer exposures on a beach. I really wanted to get that smooth water effect, and I think it worked out pretty well. I decided to put the two pictures in black and white, because the subject had a hard time standing still, so there was a bit of that inevitable motion blur. Putting the shots in black and white gave me a bit more room to play will sharpness/contrast. Plus, I like the somber look it gives it.
